Transportation connections

Vis is a Centraldalmatien island connected to the mainland by ferry and catamaran lines. For the actual schedual you should check Jadrolinija official web site. Ferries and catamarans enter only Vis port, while local busses take visitors to Komiža.

City of Komiža

Komiža is an ancient fishing port facing the sea and sparkling in the sun. If you are looking for peace and tranquillity you will find it enjoying in its authentic architecture, joined with rosemary, fish and exclusive wine odours. Outdoor enthusiasts are offered various sports and recreation opportunities like paragliding, horse riding, trekking and playing tennis.

Vis archipelago is famous for its numerous open-sea islands like Brusnik, St. Andrija, Jabuka and Palagruža. Its special attraction is Biševo with its Blue Cave, unique phenomena on the Adriatic Sea.

History

Vis history reaches back all the way to ancient Issa – the first urban settlement in a whole country of Croatia. Vis harbour has always been of a great significance for the whole Adriatic. Many of the naval battels took place here because of its strategic importance, even since Ilirian-Roman wars.

We strongly suggest you to visit the archeological site of Vis town that developed out of already mentioned Issa. Over their four years of government on the island, during the wars with Napoleon (1811-1815), Englishmen built few fortressess on hills sorounding the bay.
